According to Sea Intelligence's latest "Global Liner Performance" report, the percentage of sailing services arriving on time in November reached 56.6%, marking the highest level of scheduled reliability since August 2020. This represents a significant improvement from January this year when reliability was only at 30.4%. However, it still falls well below the average of 74% seen during the period between 2018 and 2019.

Sea Intelligence's Global Liner Performance report monitors the dependability of 33 trade routes serviced by over 60 shipping companies.

The November data reveals significant variations in punctuality rates among container shipping lines, with MSC leading the pack at 63.4% while Yangming lagged behind with a mere 42.5%. Maersk, formerly occupying the top spot, slipped to second place with an on-time rate of 61.7%.

Sea Intelligence also tracks average delays for late arrivals of ships, again showing a big improvement in 2022.

The average global flight delay fell to 5.04 days in November, down 37% from a peak of 7.95 days in January. November was the lowest average since October 2020. However, it is still 24% higher than the 2018-19 average of 4.05 days.

In addition, on trans-Pacific routes, West Coast delays have largely disappeared and East Coast delays have decreased. West Coast port congestion eased in the second half of the year, and East Coast port congestion has eased recently.

According to project44, delays between Shanghai and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased significantly in the first quarter of 2022. Since August, flight delays have largely disappeared, with an average delay of about one day.

In contrast, delays between Shanghai and the ports of Savannah, Georgia, and New York-New Jersey continued through mid-October. In the third week of December, service delays between Shanghai and the Port of New York-New Jersey averaged 5.2 days, and service delays between Shanghai and Savannah averaged 8.7 days.
