Hi everyone~
Today we discuss the fuel surcharge reduction of Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk.

Consultancy Alphaliner said both Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk had cut fuel surcharges over the summer, adding that this was a general trend among major liner companies. Overall, fuel prices in the second quarter were down 35 percent compared to last year.
Conventional heavy fuel oil IFO380 was trading at $454 per tonne in Rotterdam last week, compared with $642 per tonne at the same time in 2022.
Maersk wrote in its first-quarter report that fuel costs rose 2.3 percent compared to the previous year, while Hapag-Lloyd's costs rose 7.3 percent.
According to Alphaliner's report, both shipping lines reduced their fuel surcharges between April and June and will do the same between July and September.
Hapag-lloyd's fuel surcharge (MRF) for the third quarter was $397 per TEU, down from $441 per TEU in the second quarter. For Maersk, MRF for the Far East-US East Coast route was $842 per TEU from July 1, down from $889 in the second quarter.
