ONE launches tool for calculating CO2 emissions from ships.

Japan Marine Network Shipping (ONE) has launched a new tool called "ONE Eco Calculator" to calculate the CO2 emissions of its operating vessels.

According to ONE, the tool can provide the total distance and CO2 emissions from the point of receipt to the point of delivery, and with this new service, customers can choose a more environmentally friendly service. In addition, ONE stressed that this is one of the milestones in its journey to achieve net zero emissions.

ONE Eco Calculator can use "tank-to-wake" (TTW) as a unit to measure the emissions of fuel stored in the tank after combustion; Or "well-to-wake" (WTW) as a unit that measures emissions from production, delivery and onboard use of fuel.

Shiro Kazuhiro, Senior Vice President of ONE's Corporate Strategy and Sustainability division, said: "As we work towards decarbonisation, ONE is constantly encouraging stakeholder engagement. Thus, ONE Eco Calculator was developed not only for ourselves, but also for like-minded participants, as well as customers looking for sustainable transportation solutions and who want to manage emissions from their own cargo."

It is understood that Japan Ocean Network shipping (ONE) was established in 2017, is Japan's three major shipping giants Mitsui Merchant Marine, Kawasaki Steamship, Japan Post joint venture container ship business company, the current shareholding ratio of the three companies are 31%, 31%, 38%. The name of the new joint venture will be OceanNetwork Express, simply referred to as "ONE", with the logo in magenta.

ONE aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The company is committed to continuing to make the necessary investments in green assets and technologies, while working extensively with industry stakeholders to decarbonize maritime transport as a leader in the decarbonization of the shipping industry. Since last year, the company has ordered 20 new 13,700TEU Panamax container ships, which use ammonia fuel and methanol fuel reserve designs.

According to Alphaliner's data, ONE currently has a fleet size of 205 vessels of approximately 1.525 million TEU, including 90 owned vessels and 115 leased vessels, ranking seventh in the world in terms of capacity, with a market share of 5.7%. At the same time, ONE also has 41 new vessels under construction totalling 571,161 TEU, with hand-held orders accounting for 37.5% of the existing fleet.
